How to Make an AI Voiceover for YouTube Videos (Step by Step)
Many successful YouTube channels use AI voiceovers, especially faceless channels that publish explainers, news, stories, facts and educational content. An AI voice saves hours of recording and editing, and it lets you publish consistently even if you are not comfortable speaking on camera. Here is a complete workflow you can follow.
1. Write the script for the ear, not the eye
A script for a video is different from an article. Use short sentences. Start with a hook in the first 10 seconds. Use simple words and speak directly to the viewer with "you". After writing, read it aloud once; if you stumble while reading, the AI voice will also sound awkward.
- Keep sentences under 20 words.
- Write numbers and abbreviations the way they should be spoken.
- Use a new line for every scene so you can generate and replace single parts.
2. Choose the right voice for your channel
Your voice is part of your brand, so pick one and stay with it. Match the voice to the content:
- Education and explainers: clear, medium pace, friendly.
- News and documentary: deeper, serious, steady.
- Stories and motivation: expressive, slower with natural pauses.
- Kids and entertainment: bright and energetic.
If you want a unique voice that nobody else uses, create a clone of your own voice and use it for every video.
3. Generate the audio
Paste the script into the text to speech page, choose your voice and generate. For longer videos, generate in sections of a few paragraphs. Listen carefully and fix any mispronounced word by rewriting it, then regenerate only that part.
4. Put the audio into your video editor
- Import the audio file into your editor (CapCut, Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve or any other).
- Place visuals to match what the voice says. Change the visual every 3 to 6 seconds to keep attention.
- Add background music at a low volume, about 10 to 15 percent of the voice level.
- Add subtitles. Many viewers watch without sound, and subtitles also improve retention.
5. Polish the final audio
- Normalize volume so the voice is steady through the whole video.
- Remove very long pauses between sentences.
- Check the first and last 10 seconds twice, because that is where most viewers decide to stay or leave.
Mistakes to avoid
- Reading a whole article word for word. Rewrite it into a spoken style first.
- Changing voices between videos. A consistent voice builds recognition.
- Ignoring platform rules. YouTube expects original, valuable content. Do not upload mass-produced, low effort videos; add your own research, visuals and perspective.
- Using copyrighted music or footage without permission.
Languages and reach
With AI voices you can publish the same video in several languages. Translate the script, generate audio in each language and upload separate versions or use multiple audio tracks. This is a simple way to reach a larger audience.
Start with a short test video this week: write a 60 second script, generate the voice and see how your audience reacts.
