10 Tips for Natural-Sounding AI Voices

By FSMB AI Network · Published 2026-10-15 · 2 min read

Two people can use the same AI voice and get very different results. The difference is almost always the script. The model reads exactly what you give it, so a script written the way people speak sounds natural, and a script written like a formal document sounds stiff. These ten tips will improve your audio immediately.

1. Write the way you talk

Use contractions and simple words. Instead of "It is necessary to utilize this feature," write "You need to use this feature." If you would not say it to a friend, rewrite it.

2. Keep sentences short

Aim for 10 to 20 words. Very long sentences force the voice to rush or to place pauses in odd places.

3. Use punctuation as directions

A comma is a short breath, a full stop is a longer pause and a question mark changes the melody at the end of a sentence. An exclamation mark adds energy. Use them deliberately.

4. Add pauses with line breaks

Starting a new paragraph usually produces a longer pause. This is useful before a key point or when changing the topic.

5. Spell out difficult items

Numbers, dates, abbreviations and symbols can be read incorrectly. Write "twenty twenty six" or "percent" if the way it is read matters, and expand abbreviations such as "Dr." or "St." into full words.

6. Fix names and special words

If the voice mispronounces a brand or a name, try a phonetic spelling (for example, write how it sounds) for the generated version, while keeping the original spelling in your subtitles.

7. Match the voice to the message

A calm, warm voice fits a tutorial. A strong, deep voice fits a trailer. Listen to several previews and choose the voice that matches the emotion you want, instead of picking the first one.

8. Generate in short parts

Long generations can drift in tone. Generating one to three paragraphs at a time gives you better control and makes it easy to replace a single part.

9. Listen with headphones and edit

Many small problems, such as a clipped word or a strange breath, are easy to hear on headphones. Fix them by rewriting the sentence, not by accepting the first result.

10. Finish with simple audio editing

Normalize the volume, remove extra silence and add a very quiet background track if it suits the project. A small amount of editing makes AI audio feel like a produced recording.
